Revealed: Key advice for accessing funding for community projects in Starbeck area of Harrogate
Community organisations in Harrogate hoping for a share of thousands of pounds of grants have been issued with crucial advice on how to apply.
Ambitious projects that aim to enhance the Starbeck area of Harrogate are being invited to apply for significant funding as part of the 2026 Starbeck Community Fund which has been making a real difference to the area for more than 30 years.
Administered by North Yorkshire Council and funded by a third party, the Starbeck Community Fund supports both individuals and community groups within the designated Starbeck area.
Applications for this year’s fund are open now but will close on August 16.
Three funding streams available:
Individual grants up to £500: For applicants aged 25 or under, supporting projects, schemes or courses that enhance educational, sporting or cultural development.
Community grants – Fund Two up to £2,000: For groups and organisations seeking to improve or expand recreation or community facilities.
Community grants – Fund Three £5,000 to £15,000: For larger projects that enhance quality of life, add value to the local community and increase opportunities for residents and volunteers.
The fund was first established in 1992 as part of the redevelopment of the Morrisons supermarket site on Hookstone Chase, creating a community legacy for Starbeck residents.
More than three decades on, it continues to support local ambitions in education, sport, culture and community development.
North Yorkshire Council operates the grants scheme in partnership with Starbeck Resident Association.
Previous recipients of the Starbeck Community Fund include:
Harrogate Railway Juniors for new goalposts to increase playing opportunities for girls.
St Andrew’s Church for new curtains in the main hall, improving the space for community groups.
Starbeck Bowling Club to upgrade their green to league bowling standard.
Starbeck Fest for essential equipment to support the running of the festival.
Friends of Starbeck School to refurbish Starbeck Primary School Library.
Claro Enterprises for building adaptations including an accessible toilet and double fire door, improving inclusivity and accessibility.
Camwal Playground to enhance the children’s play area with picnic benches, a nature mural and a fairy corner.
