Thousands expected as Nidderdale Show returns to Pateley Bridge with packed programme for all the familyHarrogate

The countdown is on for one of the district’s biggest agricultural events, as the Nidderdale Show returns to Pateley Bridge this Sunday.

Thousands of visitors are expected to attend the annual celebration of farming, rural life and the local community, with a packed programme of livestock competitions, equestrian events, family entertainment and traditional countryside attractions.

Agricultural classes will feature cattle, sheep, pigs, goats and horses, alongside show jumping, sheepdog trials and the ever-popular display of vintage tractors and machinery.

The show will also celebrate the talents of the local community, with competitions in horticulture, farm crops, home produce, handicrafts, art, photography and children’s classes.

Away from the competition rings, visitors can enjoy terrier racing, live music, forestry displays, craft and heritage marquees, trade stands, a funfair and entertainment throughout the showground, offering something for all ages.

This year’s First Lady Chair, Sarah Smith, has a long-standing connection with the event, having first joined the Nidderdale Show committee 38 years ago as a horse steward before later becoming Chief Horse Steward.

Now beginning her two-year term as Chair, she said: “I’m very excited to be Chair for the next two years.

“Having joined the committee 38 years ago as a horse steward, then becoming Chief Horse Steward, it’s a real privilege to now take on the role of Chair.

“Living in Ramsgill, the Nidderdale Show has always been a really important part of our local community, so it means a great deal to me to be able to take on this role.

“I’d like to thank the committee for all the hard work they have put in to bring together what promises to be a fabulous show.

“There is a huge amount of work that goes on behind the scenes throughout the year, and I’m really looking forward to welcoming everyone on Sunday and seeing the showground full once again.”

Visitors are encouraged to book tickets online in advance to take advantage of reduced admission prices.

There will also be free parking available, with a tractor-and-trailer shuttle service transporting visitors from the outer parking fields to the showground – a tradition that remains a favourite with younger visitors.

Organisers say the show continues to be an important showcase for agriculture in Nidderdale, while bringing together local businesses, organisations, competitors and volunteers for one of the highlights of the district’s rural calendar.

Advance tickets are available online now at reduced prices ahead of the Nidderdale Show on Sunday, September 20.
