Harrogate College, FE Art & Design End of Year Show 2022

Harrogate College held the FE Art & Design End of Year Show on the evening of 23 of June 22. The evening showcased work from the MA course, and the foundation diploma. This is an annual show, but hasn’t happened over the past 2-years due to government restrictions. Student, Charlie Leyland said: I am doing a foundation diploma in art and design. World War Two Day at Willow Tree Primary School

Year 5 and 6 pupils at Willow Tree Primary School were whisked back to the 1940’s to celebrate the end of their recent World War Two topic. The children took part in an immersive World War 2 themed day focussing on what life was like on the Home Front. They were asked to come into school dressed in era- based costumes so the corridors were filled with evacuees, land girls, air raid wardens, and even a few soldiers from the Home Guard! ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted Outcome for Harrogate Grammar School

After two days of inspection, with a team of six inspectors, Ofsted reached the judgement that the overall effectiveness of Harrogate Grammar School is outstanding. They also judged the school to be outstanding in all five areas of the framework: the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management and Sixth Form provision. Grove Road Community Primary School says it has withdrawn support for amalgamation with Woodfield School

A proposed amalgamation of two Harrogate primary schools is not being put forward for approval, following withdrawal of support. The Governing bodies of Grove Road Community Primary and Woodfield Community Primary explored combining the two schools in order to share the benefit of both school sites. The move would mean Woodfield School would technically close and become part of Grove Road from September. An extensive consultation process ensued involving public meetings and gathering the views of parents and the local community. Video: The Harrogate Town AFC mascot joins Willow Tree for Walk to School day

Some of the Children from Willow Tree School walked to school with Harry Gator, the Harrogate Town AFC mascot. (25 March 2022) They met with Harry outside the club grounds on Wetherby road, and then walked down to the school. They were greeted by the Mayor and Mayoress of Harrogate. Councillor Trevor Chapman, and Janet Chapman. The event is co-ordinated across the district by Zero Carbon Harrogate, and has a good uptake. Adventures abound for Year 9 students at Bewerley Park

Year 9 students at Harrogate Grammar School recently enjoyed an action-packed trip to Bewerley Park. Three groups went across throughout a one week period, each spending two days at the adventure centre. Jake Kempton, Coordinator of Outdoor Learning at Harrogate Grammar School, who led the trip, said: This year the trip was closer to home.There were lots of benefits to doing it locally. New learning centre to create opportunities for thousands of young people

The University of York is launching a new education centre for school age children in East Hull, in partnership with the University of Hull and the UK’s largest university-access charity, IntoUniversity. The learning centre, which opens for pupils aged 7-18 this autumn, aims to make the prospect of studying at university much more likely for thousands of young people in the city. Harrogate Grammar School celebrates Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year celebrations took place at Harrogate Grammar School last week, with a vibrant display of kung fu and dance. The school, students and parents/carers celebrated the Year of the Tiger with a colourful showcase of food and culture. Mandarin teacher Richard Barnard, who spent several years living in China, explained: New Year is all about togetherness, eating with the people you love and making wishes. Harrogate Grammar School Year 10 student joins prestigious England Boys Hockey Squad

Harrogate Grammar School Year 10 student, Harry Montague, has been selected to represent his country and play hockey for the England Under 16 Boys 2022 squad. He is the only player from Yorkshire, and one of just three from the North of England, to reach national level this year. Harry, 14, plays at Harrogate Hockey Club, making his debut this season in the Mens X1. He will soon be representing England in international matches, culminating in a European tournament this summer.
